OSHAKATI - In its quest to bring development closer to the people and to enhance participatory democracy, the Deputy Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Lucia Witbooi yesterday handed over decentralised functions to 14 regions. The region is thus looking into means to accelerate implementation of the much anticipated aquifer water in Ohangwena. ONIIPA - Since Oniipa was proclaimed a town in 2015 it has yet to build modern brick houses for its residents though the local authority has made great strides to service some parts of the new town. One such servicing development was witnessed on Tuesday when the town council serviced an area estimated to have 56 erven at Onethindi Proper that was provided with electricity. ONGWEDIVA - The much-anticipated dyke at Oshakati has been put on hold since 2016 after the construction of its first phase which comprised three bridges around the town. While the export businesses at the border town of Oshikango is still in a slump because of the current economic challenges, the town has once again become a hive of business activities. While the Oshana Region is a hive of activity, with the ongoing Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair, the police say they have so far recorded less crimes compared to the same time in previous years.
