A Day in the life of Paula - As you think, so you become

2020 was a hard year to live through. And by the looks of things, 2021 won’t be any different. It has however allowed for a lot of introspection, and if it’s one thing I walked away with from the whole experience, it’s that when it comes to our emotions, and life in general, we can’t just go through the motions. And I feel we struggle a lot with this - mindfulness - which in turn makes it harder for us to figure things out for our own lives.

Here’s the problem, we take this template that society gives us, and we try to work our lives to fit the template instead of working the template to fit our lives.
We end up struggling, as we try and keep up, ultimately making ourselves miserable in the process.
Just living your life your way is a challenge, imagine living it someone else’s way, whether that’s done knowing or unknowingly.
What many of us are not aware of is that the quality of our lives is determined by the quality of our thoughts. Our mindset dictates how we experience our lives. Whatever standards you have set for yourself, whether these are your personal standards or societal standards, it is because you think that it’s what a perfect life looks like in your mind. It’s a mindset.

Think about it, in order to get to this perfect life you have envisioned for yourself, you will have to plan, work, earn and overcome all the struggles that comes along with pursuing your dreams.
Overcoming obstacles seems to be an inseparable part of this thing called life, and that alone can have such a huge toll on you mentally and emotionally.

That’s why you have to work on and continuously guard that mindset, because ultimately that is the quality of your life. If you think your life sucks, your life will suck, if you think your life is amazing, it will be amazing. That’s why being mindful is super important.
Many of us go through life never even asking ourselves why we like the things we like, or dislike the ones we do or even do the things. The answer is not ‘that’s just who I have always been’. There is a reason for everything we do, and it’s up to you to find your why. Even just the little mindfulness of being aware of ourselves in every moment can help us live much more fulfilling lives. You can’t afford to just go through life on auto-pilot, be it mentally, emotionally or even actively. Well, you can, but that’s not the life you want to live.
Have conversations with yourself about everything. Every move you make must be intentional. It must have a purpose, and you should at the very least understand the why. It has to be pre-meditated.
