Black Hawks, Omuthiya United relegated

OPUWO - The Northeast First Division Football League (NEFD) came to an official end on Sunday, with the relegation of Black Hawks and Omuthiya United to their respective regional second divisions.

The NEFD concluded with the automatic promotion of one team, joining Namibia Correctional Services from the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) and King Kauluma (KK) Palace from the Northwest First Division (NWFD) leagues, who were promoted last month.

Following the conclusion of the SSFD and the NWFD leagues last month, Cuca Tops, relegated from the top division more than 23 years ago, returned after an impressive season.

The league’s administrator, Daniel Namwira, recently disclosed the final league results, which demonstrated that the final six games, played at six separate locations, resulted in 17 goals.

Black Hawks were demoted to the Zambezi Regional Second Division, despite having the last laugh of the season with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Chiefs. The team finished the season with 21 points, six wins, 13 losses and three ties.

After losing 4-0 against Chief Santos and being demoted to the Oshikoto Second Division, Omuthiya United’s worries worsened. Out of a potential 66 points, they were only able to obtain 15 points.

Kangweru Black Tops managed a 1-0 victory away from home over Ntunguru FC to finish the season at position five with 35 points, while Further Fighters maintained their 100 per cent record in their last five games following their 2-1 victory over Oshikango Chiefs.

Oshikango Chiefs lost the league championship to Cuca Tops, finishing in second place, while Further Fighters, who began the season in the relegation zone until mid-season, managed to prevail in the top four slot by amassing an incredible 35 points in position four.

KK United narrowly avoided relegation, finishing one point above the demoted Black Hawks, despite a 4-2 loss at home to United Stars.
