Communal farmers receive recognition

Communal farmers, Wilson Tjirare, Godfried Zemburuka and Frenfriedt Karipata, emerged victorious at the recently held Agra 2023 Weaner Championship Series.

Tjirare won the Feedlot Potential category, Zemburuka won the Veld Potential, while Karipata was announced as the winner of the Heifers with Breeding Potential category.

The trio were selected from a host of farmers residing in Gobabis, Okakarara, Okondjatu, Aminuis and Talismanus.

In addition to the championship series, the farmers also received training in livestock management. The purpose of the training is to teach farmers correct farming methods and the proper use of the resources.

The event was sponsored by Bank Windhoek.

In a press statement, Bank Windhoek’s strategic communication manager Samuel Linyondi said they look forward to more growth, excellence and camaraderie in Namibia’s cattle industry.

“The Agra Weaner Championship Series continues to serve as a vital economic stimulus for Namibia’s cattle industry, offering producers a unique opportunity to benchmark their production standards against their peers. This process fosters valuable relationships, encourages the consistent review and enhancement of management practices, and it fortifies the cattle industry,” he said.

He further noted that events represent a broad spectrum of the industry, ranging from small-scale resettlement farmers to well-established commercial farmers.
