Indongo back in action next month

Namibia’s former triple world champion, Julius ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo, will be in action next month when he squares off against Tanzania’s Hassan Mwakinyo as part of the Rumble in Dar Boxing Series, Scott Patrick Farrell of Global Boxing Stars announced on Friday.

Owned by Farrell, Global Boxing Stars is a professional boxing management and representation company, and will be jointly promoting the upcoming third edition of the Rumble in Dar Boxing Series, slated for 30 July in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The other co-promotors of the event are the Jackson Group, a Tanzanian sports marketing group.

Taking to his social media platforms on Friday, Farrell shared that all is set for the upcoming boxing jamboree in Tanzania, and revealed that Namibia’s former world champion Indongo will be on the card on the night to face Mwakinyo.

He, however, did not share much specifics around the grading of the fight as details such as the duration (rounds) and magnitude of the bout were still sketchy as of yesterday. Indongo’s trainer and close associate Imms Moses yesterday confirmed that the fighter is currently in the country and hard at work, but said more details will be shared this week.

The 38-year-old Indongo, who is a former WBA, IBF and IBO unified light welterweight world champion and also represented Namibia at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, will face stiff competition in the 26-year-old Mwakinyo, who is coming from a resounding ninth-round stoppage victory against Angola’s Maiala Antonio just last month.

Back in January, the opening stanza of the Rumble in Dar Boxing Series enthralled boxing fans around the world with an incredible evening of boxing featuring world stars such as Bulgaria’s Tervel Pulev and American Shawn Miller, amongst others. It concluded with Tanzania’s very own Ibrahim Class securing the WBF intercontinental title against South Africa-based Malawian Denis ‘The Menace’ Mwale.
