Labour ministry issues fake email alert

The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment- Creation (MI-IREC) has cautioned the public of a series of malicious emails apparently originating from kyllikki.sihla@mol.gov.na.

The email carries a subject line titled: “Urgent COV 01 Non-Compliance Update - Ministry of Labour Namibia”, and contains an attachment of a zipped folder named “COV 01 Non-Compliance Update - Ministry of Labour Namibia”.

The email further provides the recipient with a file case number as a password, which the receiver can use to receive their “non- compliance update”.

“The ministry would like to warn the public about this malicious email, as it contains its domain name. For this reason, it might be perceived as an official email from the ministry by some recipients. The ministry would also like to inform the public that it has no knowledge of the origin of such email, and it should be ignored by all means,” reads a statement from acting executive director, Ambassador Balbina Pienaar.

They further advised recipients not to open the attached folder, as it might lead to unforeseen consequences.
