Man found dead on train tracks

WALVIS BAY – The police in the Erongo region are investigating the unnatural death of a man that was found lying face down on the train tracks on Saturday morning in Usakos.

The man, identified as Gaven Hoandi Nanub (22), was found around 07h45 by the train driver and his assistant at the Usakos train station, behind Rama Entertainment Centre while they were travelling from Walvis Bay to Windhoek.

Erongo Police deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Saturday told the media that a train accident has been ruled out, apart from the fact that two of the deceased fingers were cut off by the train.

His next of kin have been informed.

“It does not look as if the deceased was hit by a train, as no visible injury was found apart from a few old bruises on his face. However, the possibility that he collapsed before the train came or that he could have been killed somewhere else and dropped on the rails are still being investigated,” Iikuyu said.

Meanwhile, they are appealing to the public and family members that have any information that could assist in their investigation to contact Iikuyu at 0812464757, 0817992383 or visit the nearest police station.
