Mbingeneeko & Son make clean sweep at Aminuis Show

WINDHOEK- Stud small stock breeder Nichlas Mbingeneeko and son, Vija,  of the farm Skuilhoek in the Aminuis Constituency swept the Aminuis Show clean  as far as the small stock are concerned when his two goats, a ram and ewe, were judged champions while his sheep, a Damara ewe, was also a champion in the sheep category.

The Van Rooy ram of Kausehue Marenga from the Epukiro Constituency is the champion while a Brahman bull of farmer Zed Katjiuanjo is the champ of champs among the cattle of the show which came to an end on Sunday.

Despite the heavy grip of drought under which the Aminuis Constituency currently is, the show that is more renowned for its small stock intake, attracted altogether 172 small stock, 102 goats and 70 sheep. Only nine cattle were registered for the show. But according to Mbingeneeko who is a member of the Aminuis Show Society, this is by no means a dismal entry by Aminuis standards where focus has been more on small stock, but an improvement. But most apparent to the success of the show is the quality of the animals, which again despite the prevailing drought conditions, has improved. Mbingeneeko says the top quality of the animals more than compensates for the numbers entered.

Another success of the show is attendance, peaking at 2,000 visitors during its highlight, the Saturday. But this once again is something the show society would vigorously work on through aggressive marketing. Secondly, in the future entry shall be free to encourage people to attend. Currently it is N$30 per adult and N$10 per child and vehicle.

Next year’s edition is on August 27-31. This has been determined a year ahead so that other sister shows like that of Epukiro and Okamatapi cannot clash with that of Aminuis and farmers from these communal areas could thus partake in the Aminuis Show, which is open to all previously disadvantaged farmers from  which ever communal constituency and area. By making the show open to farmers from other regions, the Aminuis Show Society believes this is the best way farmers from the various areas can cross-fertilise knowledge regarding the quality of livestock. This is also to compensate for the decreasing numbers that the show has been experiencing in terms of animals entered.

Boergoat breeders also benefitted from a visit of the Boergoat Breeders Society, represented by Stollie van Niekerk, who engaged with the breeders. This outreach visit was facililated with the sponsorship of Bank Windhoek.  Among other sponsors of the Aminuis Show this year wer Spar Aranos; Social Security Commission; Agribank; Waltons Stationers;  Otjitengamake Butchery of Tiree Katjiuanjo; Otjandje Butchery of Tieti Katjiuanjo; patron of the Aminuis Show Society Mbuipaha Knadjoze; Tuauana Guest House of Steve Katjiuanjo; Skuilhoek Stud Breeders of Nichlas Mbingeneeko & Son; and Ovaherero Traditional Authority.
