Ncamagoro councillor passes on

RUNDU – Member of parliament and Ncamagoro constituency councillor Johannes Kahonzo Sikondo has died.

The National Council member died in a Windhoek hospital on Sunday at the age of 62.

Sikondo was hospitalised for quite some time after initially contracting Covid-19.

He was later discharged from hospital and was admitted again.

Sikondo served as regional councillor for Ncamagoro constituency from 2015 to date.

The Kavango West Regional Council announced his death yesterday morning.

“After suffering from Covid-19, he has also been going in and out of hospital due to a liver ailment. As a party, we are in tears; we lost our dedicated and principled councillor,” said Kavango West Swapo coordinator David Hipulwa Hamutenya.

“We want our people to be calm; we have lost a humble and principled man who had his bright plans and programmes that he wanted to achieve in his constituency. My hope is that those in office will continue where he has left off.”

Born on 23 June 1952, Sikondo was a school teacher for 20 years, while he also served as principal of Ncamagoro Combined School before going on early retirement to venture into politics and business.

Sikondo was sworn in as a member of the National Council, following the death of Rosa Kavara in 2018.

Sikondo becomes the second member of the National Council to die this year, after Katima Mulilo Urban councillor John Mukaya died in a car crash in May.
