NPC hoping for more spots at the Paralympics

Namibia has so far acquired four slots for the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games, but Namibia Paralympic Committee (NPC) secretary general Michael Hamukwaya is optimistic of attaining more slots ahead of the event scheduled for 24 August to 5 September in Tokyo, Japan.

The four slots are one for swimming and three for track and field.

Hamukwaya said the allocation process is still ongoing, and that they stand a good chance to get more slots.

“The high-performance allocation calculation will take place after 6 June, and this will be a great opportunity for us to double up the numbers. I still believe at this occasion that we will achieve more slots than what we currently have,” he added.

Namibia’s current four slots show a decline compared to the previous Paralympics, which saw them getting 11 slots for Rio de Janeiro and six slots for London. Hamukwaya furthermore thanked NamPower for always rallying behind them to send athletes to compete at the various competitions.

“Without them, most of these things would not have been achieved. We are grateful for the ensuring that we travel to compete at these other quality competitions,” he said.
