NPL booted out of Football House

Acting secretary general of the Namibia Football Association (NFA), Franco Cosmos, on Wednesday wrote to expelled Namibia Premier League (NPL) administrator Tovey Hoebeb to inform him that the NPL had until yesterday to remove all its moveable properties from Football House in Katutura, which is the premises of the NFA.

Alternatively, Cosmos said the NPL should move its belongings to one of the offices they currently occupy in order to make room and will then have until Friday, 6 November 2020, to fully vacate Football House as they are no longer members of the NFA.
In July after expelling the NPL as its member at the association’s 16th extraordinary congress held in Windhoek, NFA president Ranga Haikali then announced that the league would be notified to vacate Football House soonest. The NPL was expelled by the NFA extraordinary congress after a substantial 19 out of the 21 delegates supported the motion to banish the league, and only two delegates moved against the decision.
At the time, Haikali had indicated that the league’s employees would not be allowed to conduct any work-related activities at their current offices at Football House unless they were coming there to collect their personal belongings.

As a result of the severed relationship between the two entities, NFA has since moved to have the league’s secretariat vacate the premises of Football House, with the ultimate plan of making way for the envisaged NFA top tier league, which the football association recently announced will start in January and run until August. The envisaged NFA top tier league seeks to replace the expelled NPL as Namibia’s premier football division.

The NPL has been lodging at Football House rent free for the past 10 years, thanks to a prodigious relationship former NPL chairman Johnny ‘JJD’ Doeseb enjoyed with the previous NFA administration.
