After successfully hosting Science Week in Windhoek last week, activities now move to the Swakopmund Museum from 6 to 11 December 2021. 

It targets the general public, schools and young researchers, and an array of activities will take place during the week under the theme ‘Better health through better understanding’.

Students and members of the public will have an opportunity to be entertained and enjoy science. 

Science plays an important role in building an inclusive and creative society. 

It stands at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and contributes greatly to the economic advancement in Namibia’s Harambee Prosperity Plan. 

This year’s theme comes at just the right time, as the world is facing a global health crisis; hence, attention is placed on health and mental wellbeing. 

In Namibia, there is a strong demand for science outreach, as exposing young children to science creates inquisitive minds and possibly future scientists. 

The objectives of the Science Week are to screen non-commercial films that promote scientific literacy and facilitate awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues; promote science in an educational and entertaining manner through films and experiments with local scientists, and strengthen public awareness of the role of science for sustainable societies. 

It also aims to promote and foster awareness of inclusivity and wellbeing in science, and draw attention to the challenges faced by science and raise support for the scientific endeavour. 

The activities include science and nature films screenings daily, non-violent communication workshops by Monika Walter, and sand therapy for children.
