Suspects caught red-handed with stolen meat

Police in the Kunene region are hot on the trail of two suspects who allegedly slaughtered eight cattle at Dawid Post Tsamis farm in Outjo on Monday.

Police spokesperson Inspector Vehangaiza Ruitel said two of the three suspects fled the scene upon seeing the police.

Ruitel said farmworkers informed the farm owner, who then arrived at the scene with the police.

“The farmworkers found the biltong [drying meat] hanging from trees and wires.  The poachers were also at the scene at the time,” said Ruitel.

The eight cattle are valued at N$90 000.

The suspects face charges of stock theft.

Head of Operations in Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Joran Iita in an earlier interview said stock theft is amongst the three trending cases in Outjo.

He stressed that criminals are taking advantage of Covid-19 and are using the restricted hours to engage in criminal activities such as stock theft.
