Unam to meet Kudus in rugby semis

In their last match in the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) premier league before playoffs, defending champions Unam proved to be the better side as they demolished Grootfontein 48-8 on Saturday.

The win saw Unam remain in third position, with 56 points after 14 matches.

They now face Kudus in the semi-finals of the NRU premier division, set to take place this coming weekend.

Speaking to this publication, Unam’s team manager Ryno Visagie said he was happy with their overall performance, but noted that there is still a lot to be done before the season ends.

“It was a tough game, although we managed to collect maximum points. We gave it our all, and our opponents also gave us a good game. We would have hoped for the other teams to drop points, but they all won their matches,” he observed.

“For now, we have to focus on the semi-final, which will be played this coming weekend against Kudus. Playing Kudus is going to be another great test, but we are all ready for that clash.”

Coastal outfit Kudus remain in the second position, and now have with 59 points from 14 matches after winning 10-0 at home against Western Suburbs.

In other matches played, Wanderers won their weekend derby against United 54-26, and remain first on the log standings with 62 points from 14 matches.

Wanderers will now meet Rehoboth in the other semi-final after the latter moved up to the fourth position with 45 points, following a victory of 55-18 in the derby against Reho Falcon.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Division semi-finals will see Wanderers 2 against Unam 2, and Rehoboth 2 vs Kudus 2.

That division ended with Wanderers 2 on top of the log standings, followed by Rehoboth 2, while Kudus 2 ended in third place and Unam 2 in fourth place.
