Bowling finals this weekend

After a week of intense competition, the finals of the King Price Bowling National Championships are set for this weekend at the Eros Bowling Club in Windhoek.

The tournament began last weekend and has continued all week, culminating in the finals scheduled for tomorrow. Not only will top players and teams be crowned as winners at the finals, but selectors will also identify players to represent Namibia in international tournaments.

Reflecting on the week’s events, Michelle Crawford, secretary-general of the Namibia Bowling Association, described it as a hectic yet exhilarating period, with teams vying for top spots in the finals.

“It’s been an exciting and competitive tournament,” she remarked. “All teams and individual players have shown remarkable resilience, aiming for victory or a place in the finals. I am impressed by the level of competitiveness displayed by all teams, and we can expect top-notch action tomorrow.”

Crawford extended an invitation to fans to come out in force and witness the thrilling bowl games.

“This is the final showdown. We have teams from South Africa and other parts of the country participating. We urge bowling enthusiasts to join us in large numbers and witness the climax of the national championship, where top players will showcase their finest skills,” she added.

In the men’s triples category, Schalk’s team and Colin’s team have secured spots in the finals to battle it out for honours tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in the ladies’ singles event, Michelle Vermeulen will face Marietjie van den Bergh in what promises to be an intense showdown. In the men’s singles category, Julian Viljoen will compete against Christo Steenkamp for the title.

The finals will also feature exciting matches in the ladies’ and men’s pairs. Truda Meadon and Maureen Sadler will take on Marietjie van den Bergh and Pedro Breedt in the ladies’ pairs, while Wentzel and Freddie Fouche will clash with Schalk van Wyk and Claude Thornburn in the men’s pairs final.  - mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
