Capricorn Foundation injects N$1m in job creation

In response to the persistently high unemployment rate among young people in Namibia, the Capricorn Foundation has pledged to invest N$1 million in Bank Windhoek’s Young Talent Programme.

The funds are earmarked for the Capricorn Academy for School Leavers, a new initiative under Bank Windhoek’s overarching Young Talent programme.

The Academy aims to address the pressing issue of youth unemployment by providing training and employment opportunities for promising young Namibians.

According to statistics, the youth unemployment rate in Namibia remained around 38.41% in 2023, compared to the previous year.

Recognising the urgency of this national challenge, the Foundation has committed to funding the Academy, offering ten graduates from the Grade 12 Class of 2023 the opportunity to join Bank Windhoek for an 18-month comprehensive training and job placement programme.

During this period, participants will receive training across various banking disciplines, learn from professionals in Windhoek, and subsequently be placed at selected Bank Windhoek branches nationwide.

Positions are available at the following Bank Windhoek branches: Aranos, Karasburg, Oranjemund, Luderitz, Opuwo, Oshifo, Katima Mulilo, Mariental and Ondangwa.

“The Capricorn Academy for School-Leavers aims to equip and empower young school leavers with the necessary skills and experiences to build successful careers,” aid Marlize Horn, executive officer of the Foundation.

“Through this initiative, we hope to contribute to reducing youth unemployment and fostering economic empowerment among Namibia’ youth.”

The programme is open to graduates who obtained their Grade 12 certification in 2023 and meet the following qualifying criteria: grade 12 with 25 points; must have taken commercial subjects, such as Mathematics, Accounting, Business Economics, Economics, Business Studies or Entrepreneurship.

Applicants who meet the criteria are encouraged to apply at their nearest Bank Windhoek branch or download the application form from the Bank Windhoek website.

The deadline for applications is today, 15 May 2024.

Completed application forms should be sent to
