Do-or-die matches on the cards…as Debmarine Premier League wraps up this weekend

With only three matches remaining for Debmarine Namibia Premier League clubs, it is the moment of truth as to which club has what it takes to claim the trophy.

The title race has narrowed down to defending champions African Stars, Ongos FC and Khomas Nampol.

Stars are leading the log with 57 points, but right on their neck and breathing fire is Ongos with 56 points, and Khomas Nampol sitting on 55 points.

However, before their fate is sealed, these clubs need to pass a few more hurdles.

Last night, Ongos faced Orlando Pirates, and Khomas Nampol took on Tigers.

These results are available on the New Era social media pages.

The highlight of the weekend is the Sunday match between Stars and Ongos, which will determine the title winners.

The loser will settle for third place, while the winner has a shot at the crown, provided they win the rest of the fixtures.

Should the two sides draw, Khomas Nampol will win the league, provided they win all their matches.

Ongos coach Agnus Elemu said playing Pirates would be tough, as their opponents are fighting to avoid relegation, but they will fight to collect maximum points with all their remaining fixtures.

“Stars is a good team with quality coaches. They will try their level best. We will do our homework and get maximum points, as this will give us a better run to the title,” he said.

Elemu added: “When you are on top, every team comes for you”.

Speaking about the final encounter against Young African (YA), he said they are an underdog, and underdogs tend to be very dangerous.

Khomas Nampol coach Fortune Eichab said they are not chasing the title, but want to play football.

He explained their aim from the beginning was to avoid relegation.

“We did that, so the pressure is now on the other two clubs. As for now, we just try our best to collect points,” he said.

Furthermore, in tonight’s crucial encounter, Stars will take on Gobabis outfit YA at 19h00 at Independence Stadium.
