Lüderitz Town Council capacitates its workers

Lüderitz - The Lüderitz Town Council has capacitated its long-serving employees, especially for those who have worked for many years in its employ and have the experience but they do not have academic qualifications.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Lüderitz Town Council Otto Shipanga stated this during the certificate handover ceremony for council employees held at Council Chambers last Friday.
Shipanga said the council is ready to support their employees as they engaged with Namibia Training Authority (NTA) to have an on-going process to train the employees on the different career for them to get some qualifications.

Four employees were trained and they received certificates in labour law, while twelve employees were taught how to initiate and chair disciplinary hearings, five received vocational trade certificates.
The Lüderitz Town Council will sponsor two employees who want to continue with their education with one of them receiving funds to study for an advanced diploma in civil and structural engineering at Institute of Technology-Perth Australia, and one to study for a Masters in Business Administration and Management Strategy at University of Namibia.

Shipanga emphasized the council is ready to support all its employees and that those in need of assistance should contact their heads of department to make the necessary arrangements.

Lüderitz Mayor Hilaria Mukapuli thanked the Lüderitz Town Council management for providing these opportunities to train their employees and support for those interested in continuing with their education. She further said it is gratifying to see the Town Council empowering its employees.

“It is important to remember that as you gain knowledge, it is integral to share it with others who are willing to learn and received it,” stated Mukapuli. She further said the economic grow of Lüderitz and Namibia as a whole can only be realized if the communities continue to expand their minds, utilize their talents and improve their skills.

Mukapuli congratulated the employees for their educational accomplishments and she encouraged those currently busy with their studies.
