Ndapanda's travel guide - Through Namibia with Journeys

The optimist in me is hoping you still remember me (please don’t burst my bubble), because despite being gone a while, I still thought about all the ways I could share bits and pieces of Namibia with you.

The piece I have in store today comes with a little extra something special from the good people at Journeys Namibia.

Before I get excited, let’s pause and rewind.

What did I get up to while away?

So glad you asked!

...I was still budgeting,

...still saving

...still dreaming

...and still ticking off one Namibian destination at a time.

Now, if you are an avid reader, you know I have dedicated quite some time (and money – laugh with me) to explore the land of the brave, and while I have done quite a decent job so far; I still have a  long way to go.

This is why

As gorgeous as Namibian destinations are, getting there is never easy. You have to drive long distances to arrive.

They are generally off-road, so a 4x4 is often necessary and rentals do not come cheaply!

Lastly, accommodation at said destinations is not always budget-friendly; time needs to be spent saving up for said travels. A lot of time!

Where was I?

Ah, yes! Exploring... I don’t know if you know this, but the second largest canyon in the world (yes, that’s right – the world) is right here in Namibia.

The Fish River Canyon

This is one of the destinations I was able to experience during my time away – and goodness, what a sight!

There is nothing quite like it

I can only compare the feeling to that of seeing Deadvlei; it is ethereal.

Almost like time stops... the heat does not bother you as much and the flies almost do not exist.

What a wonder!

The best place to view the Fish River Canyon is from Journey’s Namibia’s Fish River lodge. It is the only lodge on the rim of the canyon!

The lodge is a little over 200km from the town of Keetmanshoop – and good news, they are currently running a special of N$650 per room for local travels – a bargain.

So, grab your bags. This kind of opportunity comes but once in a lifetime!
