New sport stadium for Katima Mulilo

The executive director of the ministry of sports Mbumba Haitengela confirmed plans to construct a new state-of-the-art multipurpose stadium in Katima Mulilo, with an estimated price tag of N$40 million.

The stadium will be built on a 17-hectare plot of land between Nova and Macaravani West on the western outskirts of the town.

Haitengela said the ministry received an alternate plot from the Katima Mulilo Town Council in exchange for the current sports field.

“The plot, received from the town council is much bigger than the existing sport field’s plot and will allow the ministry to construct a more comprehensive sports village that will cater to a wider range of sport codes,” he added.

This comes on the heels of the ministry’s previous announcement to undertake extensive stadium projects. These initiatives include the revamping of the Independence Stadium, aimed at providing a top-tier venue for the national football team to host home games.

Additionally, plans are in motion for the construction of new stadiums in both the Kunene and Zambezi regions, demonstrating the ministry’s commitment to enhancing sport infrastructure across the nation.

The ministry revealed that this exciting new projects will commence during the 2025/26 financial year.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the Katima Mulilo Town Council, Raphael Liswaniso, confirmed the new project, stating that they received an offer from the ministry to build a new stadium that will accommodate various sport codes.

“It is important to note that the current sports field in Katima Mulilo will remain in its location, and will be provided with an erf number. The construction of the new stadium does not involve relocating the existing sports field,” said Liswaniso.
