OPUWO - The round of 16 of the PstBet NFA Cup will take place at the Independence Stadium in Oshakati and the Vineta Stadium in Swakopmund on Saturday and Sunday.
Following a spectacular round 32 display last weekend that included one club from the second division and one from the first division, the resurrected NFA Cup, which began last month with preliminary rounds involving all first and second divisions, is currently in its round of 16.
An official schedule for the round of 16, released by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) yesterday, indicated that 12 matches have been spread across the two days.
For the first time in the competition’s history, women’s football will be featured and run alongside their male counterparts, marking a significant milestone.
On Saturday, six games will be played at Oshakati’s Independence Stadium, with Beauties FC taking on V-Power Angels in women’s football, before Okahandja United and Julinho Sporting renew their premier league rivalry in a do-or-die match for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Further Fighters will put their knockout prowess to the test when they face Mighty Gunners.
On Sunday, Unam Bokkies will face Ongwediva Queens, who will be seeking to capitalise on their home advantage with a large crowd expected to see their stars in action.
The relegated Life Fighters, whose pride is at risk, will be tested again on Sunday when they face Zambezi’s second-division squad Oryza Sativa, who have demonstrated remarkable talent since the start of the season.
However, the most-anticipated game on Sunday will be between Eeshoke Chula Chula and an equal-strength Unam FC squad.
Omaheke-based Young Africans and southerners Young Brazilians will travel from afar to the Erongo Region for a berth in the quarter-finals when they face off at the Vineta stadium shortly after the game between Khomas Nampol and Girls and Goals.
