Good rainfall expected in coming weeks

Subsistence farmers in some parts of the country can already start tilling their fields as more rains are predicted to fall within the coming weeks. Since last week, good rainfall has already been recorded in some parts of northern Namibia.
With the first drops of rain having fallen already in October, Namibia is expected to receive more rain in the coming weeks, particularly in the extreme north and central areas, according to weather forecaster Odile Kgobetsi.

Kgobetsi said there is a likelihood of improved rain in the extreme north and central regions throughout December.
“There is an indication that the rain will persist in the central regions, the north, Kavango and Zambezi regions,” said Kgobetsi.

During the same rainy season, normal to above normal rainfall is also expected in the same regions.
NBC recently reported that subsistence farmers have already started ploughing their fields at Omakangha village in the Ohangwena region. So far, rainfall has also been received in the South East, however, the precipitation was not significant.
However, forecasters expect rainfall to improve in December.
Kgobetsi said unlike the South East, the South West, including the Kunene region, is predicted to have normal to below normal rainfall.

He added that rain forecast models are not picking up in the southern parts of the country but he stressed this does not mean the areas in question will not receive rainfall at all.
