Kanyetu set to join APP
Windhoek - Discussions on a possible union between the All People’s Party [APP] and suspended DTA secretary general Vinsent Kanyetu are at an advanced stage, New Era understands. With just over a month before the regional council and local authority elections take place, a union between the two is imminent, according to party insiders. “No, he has not joined the party yet. We are still at a discussion level but we will make an announcement within the next two weeks,” APP president Ignatius Shixwameni said yesterday. Kanyetu, who was suspended from the DTA for five years, confirmed that discussions were underway last week. “Nothing is concluded, but they [APP] have made advances and I am considering it,” he said. Kanyetu remained resolute that he would never return to the DTA. The DTA’s national chairperson Jennifer van den Heever visited Rundu last month to attend to DTA matters, but denied speculation that she went there to engage Kanyetu on how to get him back into the DTA. Regarding Kanyetu’s alleged move, Van den Heever said: “I heard about the rumours but they were nothing concrete. I only went to the region to attend to party matters, that’s all.” Kanyetu was suspended from the party for allegedly being dishonest and selling party property without the leadership’s consent in Rundu. At the time of the suspension, Kanyetu said: “I have come to the end of the road with the DTA. It is a McHenry trust governed from his sitting room. I felt it is enough on my side and I have learned that I advocated for the wrong person this whole time. He [Venaani] is busy destroying the party with political prostitutes from CoD and RDP,” said a fuming Kanyetu at the time. by Mathias Haufiku
