Kotze stepping up

Amateur boxer Pieter Kotze is set to make his debut on a larger scale as he prepares to face off against Phillipus Shikongo in the Hage Geingob Boxing Bonanza on 27 April at Ramatex.

The 19-year-old talent, hailing from Chiappini Boxing Club, is currently receiving training assistance from Nestor Tobias through the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing Academy in preparation for the upcoming fight. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Kotze acknowledged the significance of the event for Namibia boxing community and aspires to one day becomes a world champion.  “I’m grateful to Nestor for training me, it’s a big event, its going to be history for Namibia as everyone will be gathered. Every boxer’s dream is to be a world champion. We need to showcase our talent. Our training has been going well. It never ends, the harder you train the easier you fight. We are ready.”

Despite having only two amateur boxing fights under his belt, Kotze has already displayed his prowess by knocking out his opponents. Determined to build on this record, he is steadfast in his pursuit of reaching world title status.

Tobias underscores the inclusivity of the sport, affirming that regardless of race or skin colour, everyone is welcome to participate in boxing. He envisions Namibia as a diverse and inclusive nation where individuals can excel in sports of their choosing. “Kotze is a unifier. He will unite people from different backgrounds on the day. Everyone will be under one roof, celebrating the sport of boxing and giving tribute to the late president,” said Tobias.

He adds that as the academy continues to grow, he looks forward to nurturing more talent within the boxing community and to expand on the gym.

The boxing event will be headlined by Phillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa who will face China’s Dekang Wang for the WBO International title. The undercards will be announced next week.

General tickets will cost N$50, VIP N$500 and a VVIP table for 10 will be N$20 000.
