We can never outrun our choices and habits, they will always be with us and we will always have to answer for them; whether they are positive or negative, we will all eventually reap the fruits of our labour. One of the consequences of the global Covid-19 outbreak is that the normal school calendar has been thrown into disarray, especially lower primary. We live in a free and democratic country, one where the constitution is the supreme law, and a country where our commander in chief is elected by the people of the country. One never knows where they will end up, they never know what the outcome will be. I don’t know what normal is anymore; I have lost my bearings when it comes to what is normal and what isn’t. In the past month, there hasn’t been much to celebrate or even smile about in our national news, ever since the state of emergency lapsed, There is one thing I am certain of the most, and that is that life will always go on, no matter how difficult or how bad it looks right now; it will always go on and time will heal all wounds – it eventually does. All over the world, our country has been praised as having one of the best constitutions ever written, something our legal scholars and government takes great pride in. If there is something, we all learned this year it’s that the youth are very strong and capable, despite the hardships and unfortunate events that are happening and continue to happen, the youth somehow finda way to persevere and, in some cases, thrive. I have always been a firm believer in working hard and relying on yourself above everything and everyone, even God Count yourself lucky if you still have both your parents in your life, in fact, consider yourself blessed and one of God’s favourites if both your parents are alive and well. What would you trade to get in shape and have great health? Am sure you have all been told at some point in your life that you are special and that you are one of a kind, which is true. There is a saying that goes along the lines of ‘you can bring a horse to the river, but you can’t force it drink the water’. I never knew how important a mentor was until I noticed that almost everyone who inspired me had a mentor or had been under a mentorship program of some sort; it seems there is something fundamental about having a mentor in one’s life. Honesty is a rare commodity; it has always been and will most likely remain so long after we have left this world. It is just not common to be honest as people would like to think. It is easy to forget where one comes from when the present looks glamorous and the future bright, after all, why would you want to go back to a place you worked so hard to come from. It is safe to assume that the past 12 months or so haven’t been very encouraging, it has been a whirlwind of events that just seem to be worse than the last one. Life is short and the time we get to spend on earth and with the people we love the most can be cut short anytime; and while we know that it is impossible to get along with everyone every time, we can at least appreciate having them with us today, as you never know when the last time will be. It’s important to keep yourself grounded and constantly maintaining your mental wellbeing.
